Vincent van Gogh was without doubt the most famous resident the Brabant village of Nuenen has ever known. The world famous Dutch artist lived in this village between 1883 and 1885. It turned out to be his most productive period. Many hundreds of drawings and paintings depicting the honest but tough manual labour, of the locals date back to this period. Van Gogh's work from this time was the inspiration for 'Auberge Vincent'. Many familiar themes in the hotel are associated with Vincent van Gogh.
