  • Broom House Guest House and Country Cottages

Nr Whitby - Offering 4-star silver accommodation in the picturesque village of Egton Bridge, this quiet guest house sits on a hill with wonderful countryside views from every room.

Highly commended in the 2006 Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Awards, Broom House is in the ideal position from which to explore the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and coastal villages.

There are well-equipped, quality furnished en suite rooms, a bistro, traditional breakfast room and lounge.

Enjoy fresh local produce in peaceful surroundings - as you open the front door, you will hear the sound of the village stream.

New for 2009 is White's Bistro, Broom House's fully licensed restaurant. Enjoy fine food and traditional dishes from Wednesday to Sunday.

Broom House is situated in the village of Egton Bridge and is one of many pretty villages situated in the Esk Valley in heart of the North Yorkshire National Park. Although the guest house is ideally situated in the peace and quiet of the countryside, it is very close to the East Coast seaside resorts like Whitby Robin Hood's Bay. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway begins at the next village of Grosmont, where you can take a ride on a steam train to Pickering, Whitby and Glaisdale. Beautiful walks are possible from the doorstep, whilst fishing (by permit) is possible in the river Esk. York and Scarborough are also nearby.

At Broom House, you be treated to homemade jam; fresh fruits grown in the garden; fresh Whitby smoked fish; and the traditional breakfast you would expect. The breakfast room is on the ground floor with an original Yorkshire range, and has a window overlooking the lower valley. There is also a lounge for sole use of guests, with an open fireplace, comfortable sofas and wonderful views.

Outside, there are a number of parking spaces, and you will also have your own patio overlooking the valley where you can sit and enjoy the breathtaking view. The one key element of the house is the quiet, natural surroundings. Salmon can even be seen swimming up the river in the Autumn.

All rooms include en suite bathrooms and are exceptionally well furnished. Each is provided with a variety of amenities, including flat-screen TV, hairdryer and toiletries - everything you require for a comfortable and special break.

    Each room overlooks beautiful countryside.

  • Duke Of Wellington Inn

Danby (at 9.4km) - The Duke of Wellington is an ivy-clad traditional eighteenth century inn located in Danby, near Whitby. The hotel is an ideal base for exploring the Moors, Whitby and the coast.

Built in 1732, the Inn was used as a recruiting post during the Napoleonic Wars. An iron plaque of the Duke of Wellington was recently uncovered on the outside of the building and has been mounted on the fireplace in the bar. Restoration and refurbishment has improved the facilities whilst maintaining the character and charm of this traditional country inn.
