  • Lower Brook House

Blockley (at 4.7km) - In the heart of the idyllic Cotswold village of Blockley, this traditional 17th century house offers 5-star guest accommodation in 6 individually decorated rooms, each with their own unique charm.

The traditional Cotswold stone façade only hints at the warmth of the welcome that awaits you at Lower Brook House. Inside, the house still retains many beautiful original features, including a real log fire, original flagstone floors and traditional 4-poster beds. There are just 6 rooms, guaranteeing guests attentive, individual service and an exclusive and unique experience in a spectacular setting. The rooms offer beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and of this picture-perfect village, with its wisteria-covered stone cottages, a babbling brook and the peace and quiet of a bygone era.

The brook and the picturesque dovecote in the country cottage gardens complete this oasis of peace and tranquillity, perfect for a quiet, relaxing getaway or a romantic break.

Blockley is one of the Cotswolds’ best-kept secrets. The village is a conservation area within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The village lies sheltered in a deep valley, with Blockley Brook meandering down to the village and through the grounds of Lower Brook House.

The brook used to provide power for no less than 12 mills, as listed in the Domesday Book. Several of these were silk mills in the early 19th century, after which the rooms at Lower Brook House are now named.

The village church, with its magnificent tower built in 1180, stands regally in view of Lower Brook House. Wonderful walks will enable you to discover Blockley’s charming 17th and 18th century houses and gardens, watered by the area’s numerous natural springs.

There are many other delightful Cotswold villages nearby. Chipping Campden, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold and the Slaughters are all within easy reach of Lower Brook House.

The surrounding countryside is the Cotswolds at its very best, with rolling hills and fields enclosed by dry-stone walls; elegant woodland gracing the landscape; and tiny hamlets nestling snugly in the hillside.

Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle are no more than a leisurely drive away and 2 of Britain’s finest spa towns, Cheltenham and Bath, are also close at hand.

Other local attractions include the Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge and the Roman villa at Chedworth. The area is also blessed with a number of outstanding sporting attractions, including National Hunt racing at Cheltenham, as well as some of the country’s most beautiful golf courses.

Lower Brook House offers home-cooked dinners and breakfasts, all the modern comforts you expect from a top quality establishment and a location you have to see to believe.

The peace and tranquillity make Lower Brook House the perfect location for a restful and restorative getaway and a marvellous base from which you can enjoy everything that England's largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has to offer.

Lower Brook House has 6 charming and individually furnished rooms, all of which come complete with complimentary mineral water, fresh fruit and home-made biscuits every day. Most of the rooms have beautiful views of the gardens, the picturesque village and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

As Lower Brook House is a Grade 2 listed building, the house is somewhat restricted in terms of the overall size of the rooms. Nevertheless, the attractive rooms make the best use of the available space to maximise your comfort and offer you a peaceful haven for a restful, relaxing base.
